It's no big news that South American hardcore is rapidly emerging as one of the most passionate and intense demonstrations of heavy music worldwide. And Brazil is definitely no exception to that. Formed by people that have been very active in this scene for more than a decade, NORTE CARTEL has already succeeded in becoming a very respected HARDCORE act in Brazil.
Norte Cartel started by 2006 when past members of SOLSTÍCIO (hardcore - Cabo Frio) Marcelo Fernandes (vocals), Daniel Portugal (guitar) and Dudu Manel (drums) decided it was time to start a new project to play a heavier and more aggressive kind of music influenced by bands like Breakdown, Madball, AF, SOIA, Warzone etc. By the time our scene was flooded by emotional songs, fake attitudes and weird hair looks (a.k.a emo shit). There was no better time to talk about vengeance, and taking back things we believe are the essence of HARDCORE.
A 3 song demo was recorded and shortly after, together with Chinaider (bass), the band started to perform some local concerts. This line-up only lasted for 5 gigs. Longo, ex-bass player from seminal band SERIAL KILLER (hardcore - Rio de Janeiro) took over the bass and NORTE CARTEL started some heavy touring.
With outstanding live performances, it took little time before the boundaries of its hometown, Rio de Janeiro, began being surpassed. After two years playing gigs all over the country, NORTE CARTEL was ready to take its music to a wider audience. In 2008, a split CD with Argentinian heroes OTRA SALIDA was released in both countries and had a major role in spreading the band's name all over South America. By that time, the vocalist of CONFRONTO (Brazilian straight edge metal) joined the band, which was quickly getting a huge feedback from both hardcore and metal audiences.
Due to a massive distribution of the record, in 2010, NORTE CARTEL managed to release its first full lenght FIEL À TRADIÇÃO (Loyal To Tradition in English), an album already regarded as a Brazilian hardcore classic by specialized critics.
Since then, NORTE CARTEL has been playing a lot, hitting the road non-stop and working hard on a new album to be released soon.
